Abbey Road, Barrow-in-Furness

Abbey Road is the principal road system through the English town of Barrow-in-Furness, its name derives from Furness Abbey (a former cistercian monastery) which lies at the northern end of the road. Barrow is one of the few planned towns in the UK and Abbey Road was built as the main highway through it. It is a continuous stretch of 2.6 miles of road running from Park Road/ Dalton roundabout in the north to the infamous 'Tesco roundabout' in the south (part of the A5087 Hindpool Road) which soon links to the A590 Walney Road. Abbey Road runs directly through the centre of the town with a population of approximately 70,000, sites along the road include Furness General Hospital, Barrow Park, Barrow-in-Furness railway station, the town centre and endly several of Barrow's retail parks. Devonshire Dock Hall, the central Barrow skyline as well as the Irish Sea can be seen from the top end of Abbey Road near Hawcoat/Hollow Lane.
